Yes. The free version connects your store in read‑only mode — an AI can answer how many orders came in yesterday or which products are low on stock, but cannot change anything. Pro adds everything that writes: create and update products, fulfil orders, issue refunds, edit customers, plus reports, coupons, settings, shipping, taxes, and webhooks.
Is an MCP server on WordPress secure?
It is built to be governed rather than trusted blindly. Your site acts as its own OAuth 2.1 authorization server with PKCE and dynamic client registration, so there are no secrets to leak. Every connection maps to a WordPress user and inherits that user’s role, role‑based access control decides which abilities each role may use, and you can revoke any connected client in one click.
Does it work with the Classic Editor?
Yes — all six AI experiments run in the Classic Editor as well as the Block Editor, unlike the official WordPress AI plugin which is Block Editor only. The Write button sits beside Add Media, with excerpt generation, title suggestions, summarization, feature images, and vision‑based alt text from the media modal.
Do I need the free plugin installed?
Yes. AtlasMCP Pro is an add‑on that extends the free plugin, which provides the dashboard, abilities, and MCP server. If you later cancel, the free plugin keeps working with its default limits and your settings are preserved.
What are the requirements?
WordPress 6.8 or higher and PHP 7.4 or higher. The Abilities API and MCP Adapter are bundled as vendor dependencies, so everything works today without waiting for the core versions where these ship.
